When Breakthrough’s start with RESISTANCE

Resistance comes in many forms.

Sometimes it’s insulin resistance.

Sometimes it’s resistant starch.

And sometimes… it’s our own resistance to trying something new.

Let me share a story of someone’s coaching experience…..for the sake of confidentiality……we’ll call her Maggie.

When Maggie first began her journey of Metabolic Health Coaching, her coach, at one point suggested Maggie try adding a resistant starch within her daily meals.

Maggie’s reaction?

She dug her heels in.

In her mind, if she was going to have a carb, it would be something worth it.

Chocolate cake, maybe!

One evening, Maggie was out walking with a friend, looking at the stars and venting about her coach’s suggestion. Her friend stopped walking, turned to look at her, and said:

“Let me get this straight.
You’re paying someone for advice you’re not going to take?”

That sentence cracked something open and was an AHA moment..

Why was she paying for coaching if she wasn’t willing to try what her coach suggested?

So Maggie tried it.

The next morning, for the first time in decades, she woke up to a fasting blood glucose under 70.

Sometimes we become so attached to our own way of doing things that we unintentionally block the breakthroughs we’re hoping for.

Why resistant starch can be different

Resistant starch acts more like fiber in the body.

Instead of quickly breaking down into glucose, resistant starch travels to the large intestine where it feeds beneficial gut bacteria and produces compounds like butyrate, which support metabolic health.

For many people, this can mean:

• improved insulin sensitivity
• steadier blood sugar
• fewer cravings
• better gut health

But the real lesson from Maggie’s story isn’t about resistant starch.

It’s about being willing to experiment.

Why Maggie makes a difference:

Maggie understands something many people learn the hard way:

Progress rarely comes from learning more information.

Most people already know what they “should” do.

The real challenge is being willing to try something different — especially when it challenges the habits we’ve held onto for years.

Why share this story?
