51% of Metabolic Success Is Stopping What Doesn’t Work
For decades, weight loss has been framed as a math problem:
Eat less. Move more. Try harder.
But if that model worked long term, the diet, fitness, & personal trainer industry wouldn’t keep recycling the same programs under new names.
The reality is simpler—and more hopeful:
Over half of metabolic success comes from stopping strategies that disrupt your hormones and ignoring ones that work with your biology.

1. Restrictive Dieting Trains the Body to Defend Fat, Not Lose It
Calorie-restricted diets signal scarcity, not health.
When calories drop without improving nutritional quality:
- Resting metabolic rate decreases
- The body becomes more efficient at conserving energy
- Weight regain becomes more likely
This isn’t failure—it’s physiology.
Think of it this way:
Your body doesn’t see “dieting.” It sees a potential famine—and it responds by locking the pantry – STORED FAT.

2. CICO Ignores Hormones That Control Hunger and Fat Storage
Calories don’t enter a vacuum. They move through a hormonal system—especially insulin.
Highly processed, high-carbohydrate foods:
- Spike insulin repeatedly
- Drive fat storage – Visceral Fat (deadly on the organs) & Subcutaneous Fat (below the skin)
- Block access to stored fat (Visceral & Subcutaneous) for fuel
Two meals with the same calories can produce completely different metabolic outcomes.
Similarly, Calories consumed in a meal DO NOT GET USED IN A ONE-TO-ONE relationship, for instance as calories counted as expended on a treadmill. Any personal trainer that tells you moving more, or with more intensity will have you losing weight just doesn’t understand hormones, calories, or metabolism. Calories In do does not transfer directly to Calories Out during a workout. If they did, then the high intensity aerobic workouts we all fell for would have yielded completely different outcomes than what we are witnessing today with the soaring rates of overweight, obese, pre-diabetic, diabetic, and the dramatic increase in the hundreds of symptomatic diseases from the METABOLIC SYNDROME. Think of it this way:
Calories are like money. Hormones decide whether you’re allowed to spend it—or forced to save it in the “fat piggy banks” that are already too full to accept any more deposits.

3. Restriction Elevates Ghrelin and Suppresses Leptin
Repeated calorie cutting increases ghrelin (hunger hormone) and disrupts leptin (satiety hormone). Additional Article HERE
Over time:
- Hunger feels louder and more urgent
- Fullness signals weaken
- Eating becomes mentally exhausting
This is why willpower-based plans collapse under stress.
Think of it this way:
It’s like turning up the volume on hunger while breaking the “off switch” for fullness.

4. Nutrition-First, Low-Carb Approaches Reduce Friction
Programs that focus on:
- Whole, unprocessed foods
- Lower carbohydrate load
- Adequate protein and healthy fats
Tend to:
- Lower insulin levels
- Improve leptin sensitivity
- Reduce ghrelin over time
As hormones stabilize, eating less often happens naturally, without forcing it.
Think of it this way:
Instead of riding the brakes downhill, you finally take your foot off them.

The Bottom Line
If calorie-restricted dieting worked long-term, you wouldn’t need to keep restarting. If training programs from personal trainers that focused on more resistance and intensity in the workout actually did what they claim, then our society would not be at an all time high in terms of health risk. The question you have to ask is “has the system benefited more from keeping people ill, obese, and struggling more than from healing?”
The problem isn’t you. It’s the model.
Your metabolic success will finally start to show up when you:
- Stopping restrictive diet programs
- Letting go of calorie obsession
- Start working with experts who understand hormones instead of fighting them
- ABSOLUTELY STOP working with personal trainers that preach more activity alone = weight loss
When you stop investing time, energy, emotion and money doing what doesn’t work, your body will have a chance to do what it WAS BULIT TO DO. QUICKLY.
